Gutter Paint 04:14
The impact Is much worse When it’s from the highest point I think you’d look good, as a stain on the pavement Here we are, walking down the same path And all we see is the same noxious smokescreen obscenity A hollow shell that condemns better men to the cell for the hell of it Tell ‘em it’s a privilege, to be locked up in your place you disgrace Locked up in your place, you disgrace You shed your skin and you shift your shape, But your former self drags behind as it decays You slid into a spot built on integrity And tainted it with your vile dishonesty It’s not even a surprise, transgressions minimised By your friends looking down from the high rise What’s the meaning behind your position then? To get off every crime and protect your friends? Your words are hollow and weak, like the backbone you keep. You think you’re a wolf, but I’ll show you teeth. You’re so corrupt and you don’t even see it You stand on your victims' backs while they eat shit Malversation is part of your DNA About the only part of you that is not fake So fake In a position of influence, you bleed oratory as if you fucking represent your constituents Sitting up in your ivory tower, licking your lips as you’re fed all the power I hope you fucking gag on the spoon and vomit up all of the skeletons of the people gone too soon, gone too soon. Gone too soon Our deepest condolences Who the hell are you trying to convince? You’re still at the crime scene and you’re adding fingerprints You slid into a spot built on integrity And tainted it with your vile dishonesty It’s not even a surprise, transgressions minimised By your friends looking down from the high rise How the fuck do you sleep at night, Knowing justice isn’t justice when it leans on your side? You think you’re hard to descry? I’ve got you in my sights. I can see the rot behind your eyes. You’re like the scum in a sewage line, So let’s put the scum where scum belongs. Put the scum where scum belongs.

Been a while since Mary Lee, but you’re stuck in 1883 R-e-s-p-e-c-t, you still haven’t asked what the fuck it means yet The way that you look ‘em up and down like products up for sale Is enough to elicit tears of disgust from the mothers and daughters you failed 20 bucks says you’re a piece of shit who spends too much time on RedTube. I’ll double down and bet you haven’t found a girl that really meant to say yes when she said no No no no no no no no Why would you think that you are entitled to them? No one gave you the right It’s an easy thing, keeping your hands to yourself But it’s so hard for you Go fix your attitude You’re a filthy human Baffles me that nowadays we still normalise objectification An archaic attitude that destroys and divides based on ego and pride R-e-s-p-e-c-t, go tell your Mum you don’t know what I means I hope she washes out your mouth with soap, Or leaves the fucking bar in and lets you choke You say that you’re not afraid to insult/intimidate You say that you can’t help it Wasting your time using words only to dehumanise Try this one on for size You are a coward and you’re wrapped in bad pick-up lines Exercising power over those you terrify You’re as bad as they come, dense and egotistical You’ll get what’s coming to you I hope they rip your head off I can’t speak for the ones you vex But I hold this issue close to my chest They are able to defend themselves But if push comes to shove I’ll drag you down to hell myself You need to get up to speed, but I doubt it’s just education you need It’s in your bones, your heart of stone It’s better you spend your life alone I can’t speak for the ones you vex But I hold this issue close to my chest They are able to defend themselves But if push comes to shove I’ll drag you down to hell myself You need to get up to speed, but I doubt it’s just education you need It’s in your bones, your heart of stone It’s maybe better that you spend your life all alone You're alone Stay alone Die alone

Don’t worry, you look just fine from here Everything looks bright in your atmosphere It’s a shame that you only live once ‘Cause I’d like to see you die more than Twice What’s the matter? You look dizzy on that precipice Bet you mistook it for a pedestal Picture this A poser with more problems than Jay-Z Tries to call assholes out from behind six strings You’re a killer but not in the way you think You say you’d murder a beer but you’re a slave to the drink You babble on about how you’re so keen to die But you’re so comfy you won’t even try, you know why? ‘Cause you present yourself as something of a damaged figure but in this reality you’re just a fucking travesty No one else can decipher your facade but I think you forgot one thing I feel every twitch of the eye, every shivering spine when you spit out a lie You go and talk about a noble plan to build up your pride, to escape the judgment from inside You’re even scared of fucking mirror talk, keep averting the gaze but I’ll be watching you like a hawk Like a hawk What the hell are you gonna do? Make another song about some shit that barely affects you? The most ironic thing is that you’re full of hate, Not for others but yourself you ingrate How long will this last? When will you give up the ghost? Who’s the real parasite? The evil thing inside, or the host? Why don’t you just kill both? You haven’t learned Live in purgatory

You tell me there’s no other reason That our lives are coming to a screeching halt They’re essentially committing treason, you say This whole problem is their fault Putting brothers against one another and Breaking down the family bond You’ve given us instructions on how to ostracise each other How else is the world gonna cannibalise itself? You tell me I’m supposed to fight this guy Because apparently we don’t see eye to eye? That proliferation of hate instigation is getting really old You’ll jump on anything you can, race, gender, or that we’re from different lands It’s a sick sick modus operandi Pulling at threads just cause you fucking can Sick, sick, sick Sick, sick, modus operandi By the end of your great campaign there won’t be friends, just allies and enemies. You’re not a source of knowledge you just pretend to be I refuse to hate my friends or wish for them to wither and die A world based on cliques and sides is nothing more than a slow-burn suicide Slow-burn suicide Your repulsion is so unfounded, yet you let it dictate your behaviour Walking around, nose turned up, looking down at all the ones who made a different choice He’s not, so what, what’s your fucking point? When did you care this much about anyone? So proud like you created the sky and the clouds, but you’re just a fucking clown So much knowledge, so full of shit Punish the stupid; self-inflicted I won’t run around cutting ties and surround myself with prejudice I tried to be civil with you but there’s not much more I can do for you Do you have rocks in your head? Just string a sentence together You can’t talk with snorts and grunts But there’s a place for you in the sty if you want Refuse the divide Don’t endorse the global divorce Cut that shit, let it go Their decision is not yours Go exile what you abhor Total war is at your door

Crusader 03:59
So petrified about the so-called threat to your life Coming from the people you’ve been told to spite You yearn for your own god’s name to be sung But recoil in disgust when it’s spoken in another tongue Petrified Ignorant How bloody hard is it to read Just to expand your own understanding? Just a little a compassion and maybe someday they won’t feel so afraid You’re such a crusader telling people who don’t look like you they’re a space invader But isn’t it so bizarre that you don’t recognise that you are the violator? Claim to love thy neighbour but you bare your teeth Advocate for cleansing when you’re the disease It’s disgusting how you choose your words So damn righteous but hell’s torment is what you deserve You are the danger You are the danger Decry, condemn Crucify, repeat, learning nothing It’s about damn time you swallowed the knife, Feel the sting of the blade as you curl up in shame You keep a watchful eye on those you despise, But you’re kept so blind by views you’ve let metastasise

Sensation 03:58
Hysterical As you plot another article Like a mass lobotomy delivered through the pupils with ease Don’t you fret, this shit is what you get When a blind eye is turned to what really is your worst concern Did you hear about that riot today? Or was that overshadowed by some dickhead’s birthday? You’ve got this weird idea that you’re so well informed, but your knowledge only reaches the weather report We’ve had enough What if I told you there was so much more going on? Stories of actual value, so phenomenal Newspapers are good for wiping your own ass. They’re used to having shit put on them It’s time for your nightly routine, sit in your couch and stare at pretty colours on the screen Call me an asshole but someone has to wake you up, it’s hypnosis and they’ve got you stuck Just like that You're barely scratching the surface and it makes me itch Read the cover and you say you've read the book But this blissful ignorance is so good it's got you hooked Force-fed Misread I’m not asking you to get a degree, just spend more than 2 minutes on a single theme Stand in a group with a pitchfork and flame because the anchorman told you who’s to blame Bulletins are only paper thin, provoking your worst feelings The hatred’s appealing What better way to incite your ire and rage When it’s fucking plastered on the front page Your hate is their profit Drink from their cup of deception Learn Don’t let them infiltrate Otherwise your brain will disintegrate
7.
A horrid shadow looms above your pounding head As you hear the voice in the sky say it’s time for bed The darkness truly settles on a withering frame And tears begin to roll down the emaciated face Bones like chalk, rattle when you talk But just be thankful you still have a voice You were led into the cage but you can break out So many braver before you, so it’s your turn now In other realms they’ve been ready to die for a cause So if you’re ready to opine then sharpen your claws Somewhere along the way the tables turned All the progress we made didn’t reflect what we deserved Get that tail out from between your legs You’ve got teeth and nails, not the kind who begs It's pointless to adopt a mephistophelean way You’ll throw away everything and accept an empty fate Your life isn’t over yet, it just looks like that today So summon your bravery, and reject your place in the grave. Don’t be scared, bite the hand, be angry. Pen or Sword, it’s your choice, be angry.

about

Sugar Spine, the metallic hardcore project from Sydney, Australia, has unshackled something of earth-shattering proportions. ‘Mirror Talk’ is a relentless 7-track mix of intense riffy onslaughts, technical sequences and thundering beatdowns. “This thing is pretty damn aggressive,” remarks Josh Muncke, the sole member of the project. “When writing these tracks, I really wanted to transfer a huge energy to the listener, as well as a good dose of anger. These tracks all revolve around some heavy but important topics, and the sonic delivery had to match the weight of the subjects.”

The lyrics are paramount across ‘Mirror Talk’, and express a hostile disdain towards themes such as misogyny, political corruption, islamophobia and more. Whilst being mastered by Ryan Wood at 105mm Studios, it was produced on a laptop and mixed with a combination of headphones and AirPods. ‘Mirror Talk’ is about as personal and driven as music gets. “Whilst I was constantly tempted to outsource the production to people of much higher skill and calibre than myself, I really wanted to put my whole being into the sound that Sugar Spine was going for, a sound that wasn’t perfect and polished. After months of tweaking things and my laptop almost blowing up, I got what I wanted in the end.”

Back in September, Muncke returned to Australia after spending some time overseas, but on arriving in Sydney, he was met with military presence and transferred to mandatory hotel quarantine. “Long story short, I needed to come back to Aus, and the rules here were pretty gnarly when it came to international arrivals. You’re put in a hotel room for 14 days and can’t leave the room. I was lucky in that my room had space to move around and exercise, but for others it’s a struggle to be stuck in there.”
‘Go Outside’, the debut single from Sugar Spine, was recorded in this room, and people started noticing immediately. “For an unknown artist, hitting 10,000 views on YouTube in 3 weeks and landing on some pretty solid Spotify playlists was more surprising than it was reassuring. I think a lot of people possessed the same feelings of anger that I put forward on that track, so it resonated well with them”.

The first single to come off of ‘Mirror Talk’ was “Gutter Paint”, which ravenously decries nepotism and corruption in the political sphere. “This track completely encapsulates Sugar Spine for me,” Muncke says, “it’s insanely heavy, technical without being ridiculous, politically charged to the genuine bullshit, and I had so much fun recording it. The name “Gutter Paint” sparks colourful imagination as well, so I’m excited to see how people respond to it.”

“Mirror Talk” was the second track to be dropped like a bomb, and it took listeners by absolute surprise. The angelic hopeful introduction is deceptive in every way possible, with only a rumbling bass tone to signify the destruction that ensues. “I chuckled a tad when listening back to the first mix. It really punches you in the head, hard… That first minute of “Mirror Talk” is presented in perfect visual form through the EP cover art, and is the foundation for a lot of what is happening throughout the EP. Call it cryptic, but the song is the instigator to everything else, as well as its eventual result.”

Quickly building a fanbase and making ripples in the metal world, Sugar Spine’s debut EP ‘Mirror Talk’ is going to explode, turning heads and grabbing throats everywhere for a solid 30 minutes. If people thought the debut single ‘Go Outside’ was aggressive, they have no idea what they’re in for.

Angry, hard-hitting, and unflinching. These are only a few words to describe the freshly established Sugar Spine, a hardcore- infused metalcore project from Sydney, Australia. Born out of the creative captivity of quarantine and self-isolation during the pandemic, Sugar Spine isn't as sweet as it sounds.
The music revolves around raw emotion, and zeroes in on sheer rage.
